Douane Caribisch Nederland intercepts cannabis, cocaine and spoiled food in January 2014.

Recently members of the Douane Caribisch Nederland executed a number

of drug catches. A total of 2434.80 grams of cannabis and 531.9 grams cocaine were intercepted on Bonaire, with a total street value of almost USD 32.777. Also 60 kilograms of spoiled meat and fish were destroyed.

 

On January 18th, 2014, members of the Physical Supervision Team (Team Fysiek Toezicht) intercepted 1452 grams of Cannabis. They found the cannabis in the lining of the luggage of a male passenger of 20 years old on a scheduled flight from Curaçao.

On January 21st, 2014 also 48,10 kilograms of meat and 11.5 kilograms of fish were intercepted.

These were found on a fruit boat, sailing under Venezuelan flag. The relevant import licences were missing and the products were not frozen in accordance with the rules and didn’t smell fresh.

The meat and fish were transferred to the "Dienst Veterinaire Zaken (Veterinary Affairs) for further examination and destruction.

On January 24th, 2014 members of the Physical Supervision Team (Team Fysiek Toezicht) intercepted 982.8 grams of cannabis.. The cannabis was found in 2 boxes of merchandise in a warehouse at the Kaya Industria.

Finally members of the Physical Supervision Team (Team Fysiek Toezicht) intercepted intercepted 531.9 grams of cocaine on January 25th , 2014. The cocaine was found on a 24 year old male passenger. He had planned to leave on a scheduled flight to The Netherlands. Further investigation showed that the man had swallowed small sacks of drugs.

Customs always remains alert for attempts of smuggling illegal products in or out of the Caribbean Netherlands.
