Minister Lake Lectures about back to basics at St. Maarten Academy

The Minister of Public Housing, Environment, Spatial Planning and Infrastructure (Ministry VROMI) Hon. Maurice Lake gave a lecture on Thursday to students St. Maarten Academy 1A2 students on behalf of Teacher Kenneth Cook.

The lecture was about the role and functions of Ministry VROMI. The St. Maarten Academy course was Civics where the kids are tested about the structure and role of Government, the House of Parliament, and the current dignitaries that fill these positions.

"It was great to be back in the classroom. I would like to thank Mr. Cook for inviting the Ministry and myself to share information with the students. My Ministry staff spoke about the organizational structure, the different departments and services as well as zoning and planning.

"In the beginning after the presentation was given the students were a little shy, but opened up with great interests and respect for the role and responsibilities that Ministry VROMI has.

"In my back to basics approach, within Ministry VROMI we are a team, and we have a responsibility to share knowledge with our future leaders of the country in the private and public sectors. Education is the basic foundation in order for one to move forward in life.

"I encouraged the students to study hard and that the sky is the limit. We need Sint Maarteners to fulfill the job opportunities that come online and we need qualified and professional people," Minister Hon. Maurice Lake said on Thursday.

Those that accompanied the Minister were Ministry VROMI Secretary General Louis Brown, Department Head of VROMI Johan Sellink and member of the Minister’s Cabinet Tatiana Arrindell.
