Minister De Weever meets with United Nations Population Fund

On Wednesday afternoon, Minister of Public Health Social Development & Labor, Cornelius De Weever met with Dr. Mario Solares of the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA); Dr. Virginia Asin, Head of Collective Preventive Services; Maria Henry, Section Head Preventive Health and Joy Arnell, Head of Social Development to discuss the development of the National Adolescent Reproductive Health Programme for St. Maarten. 

Dr. Solares is currently on the island to conduct a three day session with staff of the ministry and other local stakeholders. The Ministry of Public Health Social Development & Labor requested assistance from UNFPA to provide technical support to develop the National Adolescent Reproductive Health Programme for the country. The final product of this endeavor will contribute to the final outcome of the cooperation with St. Maarten, which is the development of the draft National Adolescent Sexual and Reproductive Health Programme document, which will be presented to the ministry when completed.

Dr. Mario Aguilar Solares is a medical doctor with a residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology. He has been working with the UNFPA for the past 16 years. Presently he is the regional advisor in sexual and reproductive health in the UNFPA sub-regional office in the Caribbean in Jamaica.
