Prime Minister Joins Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Culture Youth and Sport Affairs in inaugurating Solar Panels for Philipsburg Jubilee Library
"Moving forward with alternative energy projects"
The Prime Minister of St. Maarten the Honorable Sarah Wescot-Williams joined Deputy Prime Minister the Honorable William Marlin, Minister of Education, Culture, Youth and Sports the Honorable Silveria Jacobs and representatives of both GEBE and the Philipsburg Jubilee Library in inaugurating the Solar Panels at the Philipsburg Jubilee Library on Thursday.
The Library, with support of Minister Marlin and the VROMI Ministry was able to install a number of solar panels supplied by local company Caribbean Solar "Government is completing our energy policy and we will be having discussions with GEBE on the way forward. The energy policy will involve both solar energy and wind energy in addition to our waste to energy plant reducing dependency on fossil fuels," commented Deputy Prime Minister William Marlin .
The Solar Panels will provide some ten kilowatts of electricity for the Country’s Library and marks one of the first steps in the ‘greening’ of St. Maarten’s energy consumption, with similar projects slated for schools and various public buildings in the near future. "It is good to see that we are moving forward with alternative energy projects here on St. Maarten and I look forward to seeing the extending of similar projects in the future providing relief for both the environment and the people of St. Maarten," commented the Prime Minister.
