UP Party first political party to register with electoral council

Party ready for parliamentary polls

On Wednesday representatives of the United People’s (UP) Party presented their official documentation to the Electoral Council making it the first political party to register with the Council. On hand for the presentation were Joe Richardson, President of Parliament Hon. Gracita Arrindell, Franklin Meyers and Kenneth Serrant.

The presentation was made to the President of the Electoral Council Bert Hofman in the presence of Vice President Celia Richardson and Secretary Linda Richardson.

"We are ready! The UP Party on Wednesday led by example and registered according to the new rules and regulations for the 2014 parliamentary elections. We are looking forward for the other political parties to register with the functioning Electoral Council which is also ready.

"I disagree with the Prime Minister about holding elections in September during the peak month of the hurricane season. We have to look out for the safety of the people. We cannot disregard the people. If a hurricane comes you have to postpone and reschedule and this would not be necessary if you have the election at the beginning of the season for example. The UP Party is ready to go to the polls and the people of Sint Maarten are also ready," Franklin Meyers said on Wednesday.

The UP Party 2014 Congress is set for Sunday, March 23 at the Celebration Palace. The Congress starts at 1.00pm and all supporters are invited to attend.
