SMSPA To Hold New Years Conference For Seniors

This week Thursday January 30th the Sint Maarten Seniors and Pensioners Association will hold their New Years Conference in the John Larmonie Center from 12.00 pm noon till 15.00 pm. The theme of the Conference is : "What should to be done for seniors in Sint Maarten to have a Happy New Year, all 365 days of the year."

 

The SMSPA invites the seniors to assist so that together we can reflect upon the struggle of the SMSPA to address the worries, the concerns, the issues brought up by their members during last year. (Issues such as loneliness and social exclusion of seniors, quality of goods and services and ever increasing cost of living in Sint Maarten, poverty old age pensions (AOW) and social allowances (onderstand) not sufficient to pay the bills, longer waiting lists for seniors who cannot pay cash for medical treatment, and substandard quality of medical treatment, sickness insurance premiums 5x higher than active and unemployed workers, etc.) The 2014 CFT-budget proposed by government and adopted by Parliament how does that affect the situation of the senioors and their family members will also be discussed.

The Conference starts at 12.00 pm with some opening remarks followed at 12.30 by a lunch. During the lunch there will be some additional speeches and some DVD’s will be presented covering activities of the SMSPA.

From 13.30 pm till 14.30 pm SMSPA board members will give the seniors a review of the SMSPA struggle and accomplishments during 2013.

The key note address will be in charge of drs Raymond Jessurun, 1st Vice President of the SMSPA. In his key note address the theme of the Conference will be highlighted, after which seniors get the opportunity to comment and/or to can suggest what they wish to happen in 2014 to give them as seniors during 365 days a happy New Year.

All members of the seniors association but also other seniors who are interested are welcome.
