Prime Minister Wescot-Williams Congratulates Local Meteorologist

In Attending Prestigious Training Course on Climate in China

The Prime Minister of St. Maarten the Honorable Sarah Wescot-Williams was joined by the Minister of Tourism, Economic Affairs, Aviation, Transportation and Telecommunication the Honorable Ted Richardson in congratulating local Meteorologist and Climate Expert Desiree Connor in traveling to Beijing China to attend the International Training Course on Regional Climate Prediction and Drought Monitoring hosted by the WMO Regional Training Centre Beijing (RTC-Beijing) and sponsored by the China Meteorological Administration (CMA).

Through the training course, participants will gain a good understanding of short-term climate prediction and drought-related issues. The course is also designed to help trainees learn new technics of diagnosis and attribution on extreme climate events (especially drought events), and improve the climate prediction skills in dSt. Maarten.

Prime Minister Wescot-Williams stated that she was proud to see a young, local professional in the scientific field travel internationally to gain a more in depth understanding of the changes in climate. "I would like to congratulate and commend Ms. Connor in her travels and I am sure that she will return to St. Maarten with the information necessary to prepare the country for climactic events that will undoubtedly influence us in the coming decades," commented the Prime Minister.

The attendance of St. Maarten was sponsored by the China Meteorological Administration CMA.
