Some 2000 Garbage Bins Arrive On Sxm

With the distribution of new 65 gallon garbage bins that started during the weekend, it is expected that within a few weeks the island will be noticeably cleaner. William Marlin the Deputy Prime Minister with responsibility for VROMI was very happy with the arrival and he mentioned that these new bins would be a welcome addition to his overall get St. Maarten clean efforts.

Along with the other projects coming down the stream and the possibility of an awareness campaign, the Minister is confident that these will lead to a healthier population. The Minister added that we are all affected by pollution in any form and we must all pitch in to make St. Maarten the cleanest island in the region.

A partial amount of some 2000 bins have already arrived on the island with more to come in the next few weeks. The bins will be distributed by the contractors who are now tasked with garbage pickup. The bins are numbered and residents will be required to sign for receipt of the bin.
