Library hosted panel discussion on the relevance of Black History Month

The Philipsburg Jubilee Library concluded its month long Black History activities, with a panel discussion on the relevance of Black History on St. Maarten on Wednesday, February 27, at 7:00pm.

The 6 member panel included, Dr. Maria van Enckevort, Dr. Rhoda Arrindell, Clara Reyes, Shujah Reiph, Riegnald "Bakari" Arrindell, and Christopher Emmanuel. Also moderated the panel was Lysanne Charles and Rene Violenus

 

 

The program did explored the significance of Black History Month, in light of the 150th and 165th anniversary, respectively, of both sides of our island. Panelists reflected on why it’s still important to acknowledge, commemorate and participate in the celebrations of the contributions made by people of African descent.This was open and free to the general public, and audience participation was encouraged
