President of Parliament Samuel extends condolences

President of Parliament Hon. Drs. Rodolphe Samuel expresses his heartfelt condolences on behalf of himself, his family and the Parliament of Sint Maarten, to the family and friends of Michael and Thelma King who were murdered last week.

President Samuel also commends the Special Police Task Force that was established to investigate the crime, for its success in making an arrest with respect to the case.

Samuel added that tourism is the main pillar of the island’s economy. Crime can have a negative impact on the industry, but he feels confident that the quick apprehension of a suspect in the case will limit the long-term effects.

The quick apprehension of a suspect Samuel pointed out, is an indication that law enforcement of Sint Maarten is doing a good job, and we all hope that this terrible crime doesn’t have a long term effect on our economy.

The President of Parliament said that crime overall, against residents and visitors, cannot be tolerated, and calls on the community to continue to be vigilant in what is happening in their neighbourhoods, and to report criminal activity to law enforcement.

Samuel concluded that the nation is keeping the King family in their thoughts and prayers during this very difficult period as we mourn this tragedy together.
