The Oranje Fonds, the main sponsor of SXM DOET, has made extra funding available for the annual SXM DOET volunteer event, due to the extra challenges Sint Maarten is facing in the aftermath of hurricane Irma.
This year organizations can now request up to $1000, instead of the usual $650. SXM DOET coordinators – Melanie Choisy, Fleur Hermanides and Laura Bijnsdorp urge organizations to sign up this year to take advantage of this funding opportunity. SXM DOET 2018 will take place on March 9th and 10th.
SXM DOET is perfect for organizations – local foundations, schools, clubs, community centers and other NGO’s to get pending projects off the ground that they previously have not been able to, or to register newly needed projects due to destruction caused by hurricane Irma. The goal of SXM DOET is to ensure that locally existing organizations successfully execute a project, which benefits themselves, and in turn, the community.
These projects can be in the scope of (re)building such as fixing fences, repainting walls or building furniture, but also social outings, creating community gardens, setting up playgrounds, and many more possibilities. As long as the organization itself or their clients benefit from the project. Last year over 1300 volunteers completed over 70 projects in the two days of the event.
The funding request deadline is set to January 31, 2018. The $1000 grants are available to all registered organizations, per project location, on a first come – first serve basis.
Registering projects and applying for funding can all be done through www.sxmdoet.com. If organizations have any questions or need help signing up, they are welcome to call the team for assistance.
