WILLEMSTAD – The recommendation of 1 September 2017 by the Supervisory Board of the Central Bank of Curaçao and Sint Maarten (the “Central Bank”) is in accordance with Article 20, paragraph 3, of the Central Bank Statute for Curaçao and Sint Maarten done to Mr. Dr. ED Tromp interim dismissal as President of the Central Bank.
By letter of 2 September 2017, the Minister of Finance of Curaçao and the Minister of Finance of Sint Maarten (the Ministers) told Mr Tromp that they could find themselves in that recommendation and intend to appoint him as President of the Central Bank to discharge. The letter also gave Mr Tromp the opportunity to give his opinion on the resignation.
By letter of 7 September 2017, the opinion was given by Mr Tromp by his authorized representative. The objections raised in the letter of 7 September 2017 did not give rise to the Minister’s refusal to waive the interim resignation of Mr Tromp as President of the Central Bank.
The interim resignation of Mr Tromp has been laid down in the Land Decree of 17 October 2017, No 17/2936, of Curaçao and the Decree of 17 October 2017, No. 17B0543, of Sint Maarten, of 17 October 2017. These country decisions were announced to Mr. Tromp yesterday, October 25, 2017.
The staff of the Central Bank have already been informed by Mr Romero as acting president of the Central Bank.
