PJIAE – Athletes from the St. Maarten “King Yen Tae Kwon do School, left the island for Aruba Friday to take part in the 17th International Aruba Open Taekwondo Tournament being hosted there.
Amongst the participants are Tyrell Pantophlet, Lee-Ann Liu and Ivyanne Louisa, Andres Patrick, Destiny Washington, Tyrone Washington, Joel Louisa, Mira Raghosingh, Rani Raghosingh, Mahelia Gadishaw, Jai Hiu Henry, Xavier Aventurin and Emily Leysner.
According to Grand Master Theo Liu, the St. Maarten team consists of a full delegation of 33 persons, including the athletes themselves, supportive parents, coaches and a also the team’s own medical doctor.
“We will be competing all day Saturday and we are confident that we are good enough to win many gold medals during the tournament,” said an equally confident Grand Master Liu as the team prepared to embark on their flight to Aruba.
Many parents and supports of the athletes also turned out Friday to give a warm send off and best wishes for the competition.
