TelEm Group is giving and moral support to St. Maarten’s national volleyball teams as they prepare for a major regional volleyball tournament being hosted on the island later this month.
TeloEm Group Account Manager, David Evans, visited the team training camp at the Melford Hazel Complex, Pond Island, last week to offer support and also to present a sponsorship cheque on behalf of TelEm Group.
The presentation was made to Sint Maarten Volleyball Association (SIMVA) president, Mr. Raymond Jacobs, who thanked the company in return for its assistance.
He said the association has the mammoth task of raising more than $75,000 to host the tournament, featuring youth from St. Maarten and various other Caribbean islands.
“It’s an honour for St. Maarten to host such an event and it will surely boost our efforts to build a sports tourism base here,” added Mr. Jacobs.
He said training efforts have been stepped up in the past weeks to catch up on a lot of lost training time while many of his players were busy taking end-of-term exams.
“We still have a lot of work to do, but I think we will be ready,” said Mr. Jacobs during a break from coaching.
He said the association is still way below its fund-raising target, and would be very pleased to hear from any other corporate sponsors willing to help the national team and youth in general.
