Wildlife of St. Maarten by Author and Naturalist Mark Yokoyama
The Prime Minister of St. Maarten the Honorable Sarah Wescot-Williams was presented a copy of the second edition of Mark Yokoyama’s the Incomplete Guide to the Wildlife of St. Maarten at her Cabinet on Wednesday. The Guide, which is based on over three years of fieldwork, combines scientific, cultural and historical research to tell the story of the fauna of St. Martin and their relationship with the island and its people.
Mark Yokoyama is a naturalist, author and wildlife photographer living on Saint Martin. He holds a degree from Harvard University and is an avid entomologist – a lifelong passion that was sparked early in his childhood and led him to serve as president of the Oregon Entomological Society at the age of fifteen. After moving to Saint Martin in 2009, he took to the hills to study
and document the wildlife of the island. He published the first
edition of this guide in 2010.
The Prime Minister commented that she very much looked forward to reading the book. "It is very interesting to have such a publication available and I am very interested in going through it. This is an excellent educational publication that will enlighten both residents and visitors on the wildlife that can be found in our country," commented the Prime Minister.
