MP Wescot follows up on CFT’s letter regarding backlog annual accounts of government entities

By letter of September 22, 2016, the CFT alerted the Minister of Finance of St. Maarten of the obligation of government entities to submit timely annual accounts. It goes without saying that in addition to the importance of the timely accounts for government’s overall supervision of its companies and other entities, and for government’s overall financial management, these accounts are also critical for Parliament’s task in supervising government ministers, who are responsible to parliament for the supervision of these entities.

I thus directed the following questions to the Minister of Finance last week and eagerly await his response:

Pursuant to the letter from the CFT dated September 22, 2016, regarding the annual accounts 2015 of government entities, I kindly request that you inform me:

  • If and in how far the submission of annual accounts by government entities has improved over the past six (6) months?
  • What is the status now? Kindly provide parliament with the latest accounts of these entities, if not yet done.
  • Of government’s plan to tackle the late submission where such occurs.
