CONCACAF to Host 2nd Women’s Football Day this Saturday 21st of May”

Sint Maarten Soccer Association welcomes all women ages 6 and up to participate

The Confederation of North, Central America and Caribbean Association Football (CONCACAF) announced that its second annual Women’s Football Day (WFD) will be celebrated on Saturday, May 21, 2016. Building on the success of the inaugural women’s day held in 2015, in which 38 of the 41  member associations within the Confederation united to create a significant opportunity for girls and women to play the game, this year’s one-day event will provide an even stronger platform to raise awareness for women’s growing  participation in soccer.

The Sint Maarten Soccer Association (SMSA) participated in last year’s event and will join again this year by organising a Football Skills Challenge and a 5 v 5 Tournament. All women, ages 6 and up, are welcome to participate. Participation is free and the event is scheduled to kick-off at the Raoul Illidge Sports Complex at 3:30pm. ‘This is an important day for all women football players as we continue to promote and develop women’s football on Sint Maarten. We hope that many girls and women who are playing or are interested in the sport join us this coming Saturday’ commented Chair of the Women’s Committee Ms. Danaë Daal. Joining the WFD as a main sponsor is Law office Sulvaran & Peterson which has a strong women’s representation with mainly female lawyers employed by the firm. The Women’s Committee is happy to have Sulvaran and Peterson on board for the event.

Further details about WFD can be found on the SMSA Facebook page. Interested girls and women can register via this Facebook page, their football clubs, or by contacting the organiser at 5806494.
