Prime Minister Launches Public Service Center Plan

New Public Service Center to be Located in Simpson Bay; to provide Government Services to residents

The Prime Minister of St. Maarten the Honorable Sarah Wescot-Williams attended the opening presentation for the Government Public Service Center which is to be constructed in Simpson Bay.

The Public Service center will house various Government Services and aims to provide information, services, and products from Government to the public of St. Maarten.

The Prime Minister stated that Government has gone through a long road I order to decentralize some of the services; "with decentralize I mean to take services closer to the public in general and in this case to take some of Governments vital services over the hill as we like to call it. It has taken a while and it has naturally taken a lot of work and cooperation but I think that finally we are seeing it ready to start in the coming months. And so I want to encourage you to continue to work on the energy you have been working with on this project," stated the Prime Minister. It is Governments intention to start in Simpson Bay and to then move on into the other districts.

"It requires us thinking somewhat out of the box as far as our own departments are concerned, but once we apply ourselves to completing the project this surely will work in the benefit of the people. For a long time the cry of the Cole Bay/ Simpson Bay districts has been for a service area in order for people to not have to travel to town. We also know how it is where some of the queues and lines are concerned and so I am truly exited about this particular start of the public service centers which is part of giving more services as part of one location," concluded the Prime Minister.

Construction of the Service Center should start by next week.
