Workshop combating maritime incidents Dutch Caribbean

Following the workshop maritime risks analysis on St. Maarten in March of this year, the Ministries of Infrastructure & Environment/Waterways & Public Works (I&M/Rijkswaterstaat) have organized a second workshop on Thursday June 21st 2012.

Taking part in this workshop which took place on Curacao were the Island Governors, island secretaries, harbor masters and managers of marine parks of Statia and Bonaire. Furthermore representatives of the coast guard, regional fire brigade, the Representative of the Dutch Central Government, oil terminals and the Ministries of Defense and Security & Justice were present. Regretfully, the Saba delegation could not attend due to circumstances.

The main aim of the workshop was the joint discussion and studying of the Temporary Plan Combating Maritime Incidents Dutch Caribbean. And the gain clarity regarding the role, tasks and responsibilities of the various parties who are involved in combating maritime incidents. In the afternoon in two groups (Windward- and Leeward Islands) and incident ‘oil disaster’ was imitated and walked through.

The Workshop provided transparency and clarity about how maritime incidents are dealt with on the islands. With the results the next step will be made for the organization for combating Dutch Caribbean maritime incidents.
