November 25th 2011 the Chief de Mission of the Dutch Olympic Committee, mr. Maurits Hendriks, pays an exploratory visit to Bonaire. He spoke with the office of the Representative of the National Government for Bonaire, St. Eustatius and Saba and commissioners mrs. Serfilia and mr. Kroon.
In 2016 the Olympic Games are held in Rio de Janeiro. Of course preparations for these games are in full swing. In order to prepare these games he is looking for locations where the participants can prepare themselves properly for the games. The climate, the small time difference to Rio de Janeiro and the fact that Bonaire is a part of The Netherlands, make it interesting to explore Bonaire for this cause. Mr. Heemskerk is therefore visiting hotels and sports facilities on the island. He also consults experts from local sports.
