St John’s, Antigua – President of the West Indies Cricket Board Dr. Julian Hunte met with staff of the WICB to brief them on the new culture of the organization.
Dr. Hunte outlined that the Board of Directors has resolved that it is committed to making fundamental changes in the manner in which WICB executes its mandate as the governing body for cricket in the region.
"Coming rather soon the Board will consider the report of the study being concluded by Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu and arising out of that it will allow us to finally put together a comprehensive strategic plan for the WICB," Dr. Hunte asserted.
"With a comprehensive strategic plan in place this Board and those coming onto the Board in future will understand what he or she needs to do to take West Indies cricket to the next level," Dr Hunte told staff at the meeting at the WICB Offices on Friday, November 12.
"The Directors are very serious about the new paradigm that the WICB needs to take in order to move forward," Dr Hunte relayed.
"One question we are reviewing is how are we going to integrate Territorial Boards into the WICB structure in a more holistic way so that we, as a complete WICB entity – Board of Directors, Territorial Boards, players and staff – can all work together in moving West Indies cricket forward."
Dr Hunte told staff of their immense value to the organization and implored that the WICB work culture should be one similar to that of a family while each member strives for greater levels of efficiency.
"Without you I don’t know how we can run the business of West Indies cricket and we, at the Board level, will ensure you are sufficiently satisfied so as to ensure that you do your jobs properly but you will each have to deliver," Dr Hunte told the staff.
"We have now established a clear demarcation between WICB management and the Board. The Board sets WICB policy and management is then given the responsibility to execute. The lines are no longer blurred as they have been in the past," Dr Hunte outlined to the staff.
"We have also brought new staff on board in order that we can ensure that we can deliver a quality product," the WICB President said.
"We are not where we would like to be as yet but it is a work in progress and we have seen very good signs in the recent past that we are moving in the right direction and positive advancement is being made," Dr Hunte said.
Several staff members also took the opportunity to share their thoughts, make comments and raise various issues relating to employment at the WICB with Dr Hunte.
