On Tuesday morning at approximately 04.00 a.m. police patrols and detectives were sent to Kruythoff Steeg in Philipsburg to investigate a case whereby a man was found lying in a pool of blood. On the scene the investigating officers found the man with the initials O.S.S. from Spain lying unconscious on the ground bleeding profusely from at least three very large wounds to his head.
A piece of metal pipe with blood stains on it was found in the immediate area of the crime scene and possibly may be the object that was used to commit this serious criminal act. This piece of pipe has been confiscated for further investigation. The victim was treated on the scene by paramedics and then transported to the Sint Maarten Medical center where he was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit. The latest report on the condition of the victim was, that seeing the severity of his condition, he would be flown abroad for medical treatment. What the motive is or who the suspect or suspects are in this case is still unknown. The Detective and Forensic Department are carrying out the investigation. When more information becomes available the media will be informed.
