Wescot-Williams queries departure of Panneflek

The Island Government wants to know how the St. Maarten arm of the Windward Islands Police Force will function and be structured following the departure of its acting head next month.

Commissioner Sarah Wescot-Williams said Wednesday that the Executive Council had asked Antillean Justice Minister David Dick to elaborate on what would happen after Deputy Chief Commissioner Richard Panneflek left on February 1. The commissioner said she had sent a letter to the Justice Minister.

Panneflek took over in the place of Windward Islands Police Force Chief Commissioner Derrick Holiday last year. Holiday was suspended from the force after charges of forgery were levelled against him.

Panneflek announced his leaving a few months ago, telling media representatives and his superiors in the Central Government that he intended to start a security force in St. Maarten similar to Curaçao’s SKS.

Antillean Justice Minister David Dick is on-island this week, but was unavailable for comment on Wednesday.
