 15 Elementary Schools to take part in National Flag Day Workshops

Fifteen elementary schools will be taking part in National Flag Day Workshops which kick-off on Thursday over a five day period leading up to June 13, Flag Day.

Students will be taught about ordinance governing the observing of the flag along with other protocols related to the correct use and display of the flag, for all occasions and situations.

The fun-filled educational lecture will be delivered by representatives of the Windward Islands Police Force, Section St. Maarten, namely Officer John and members of the Flag Day Coordinating Committee headed by Coordinator Dorothy Lake.

The first three schools to be visited on Thursday are Oranje School, Marie Genevieve de Weever and Sister Marie Laurence. On Friday, the committee will visit Sister Regina Elementary School, Leonard Connor, and Charles Leopold Bell School.

Each school was asked to select 25 students to take part in the workshop.

A Flag Day Coordinating Committee established by Sector Welfareâ??s Department of Social & Cultural Development, is currently working on an awareness campaign as well as national celebrations for Flag Day, June 13.

On June 16, 2005, the Executive Council proclaimed the 13th day of June as Flag Day.
