TelEm Group technicians will be cutting over residential and business telephone lines to a brand new replacement telephone cabinet at the entrance to Pelican in Simpson Bay Saturday.
The telephone cabinet was written-off in an early morning accident early Tuesday morning when a motorist collided with the telecommuniation connection point.
Technicians have been busy replacing the cabinet and undergound cabling in preparation for Saturday’s operation when they will disconnect customers from the damaged cabinet and reconnect them to the new telephone cabinet in a "cut-over" process.
The work is scheduled to begin at 7:00 am Saturday and end at approximately 4:00 pm weather permitting.
TelEm Group residential and business customers between the Simpson Bay Bridge and the Simpson Bay Yacht Club can expect interrutions in their voice and data service for approximately two hours while the cutover is under way.
"The restoration of the telephone cabinet at the entrance to Pelican was gone very well. Customers can be assured that we will be making all efforts not to leave them without service for too long during the cutover," said TelEm Group Manager, Outside Plant, Mr. Marco London during a works schedule briefing Thursday.
He said this is not the first time the company has had to replace a telephone cabinet at the same location as a result of a vehcile collision.
"We have rellocated the cabinet as best we can and meantime we have made request to government for permission to construct a barrier to protect our equipment from future damage," said Mr. London.
