Parents of students and Teachers of the Leonard Connor School were updated by the Ministry of Education Culture Youth Sports on steps taken since the report of noxious gases at the school on October 19th, 2016 as well as informed about the plans moving forward.
After the presentation, Parents took the opportunity to ask questions, make statements and suggestions. The Ministry Inspectorate and Fire Department reps were on hand to answer the questions from the audience.
Several concerns were raised about Government’s ability to regulate the industries which are affecting the Cole Bay area. Minister Jacobs and the various inspectors reiterated Government’s commitment to finding solutions to the challenges being faced.
The Minister of Education suggested to restart school on Thursday as the cleaning of interior was reportedly almost complete. However upon insistence of the teachers, Minister Jacobs has agreed to allow 1 more day to finalise cleaning of Cycle 2 classes and exterior.
Minister Jacobs apologizes for the late notice but this could not be avoided due to the lateness of the meeting.
