SYDNEY, Australia – West Indies suffered a heavy defeat by 257 runs to South Africa, but remained in contention for a place in the quarter-finals of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015.
Proteas captain AB deVilliers made a superb 162 not out off just 66 balls as his team made 408-5 off 50 overs on a good pitch at the Sydney Cricket Ground. The Windies never really mounted a strong reply and were bowled out for 151 off 33.1 overs on Friday night.
The Windies record now stands at two wins and two defeats – which puts then at fourth place in Pool B behind India, South Afrcia and Ireland.
In the second half of the match captain Jason Holder topscored with 56 off 48 balls, the highest score of his ODI career.
Holder spoke to members of the media after Friday’s match. Details for download of this media opportunity are below.
