Additional Covenant Caribbean Netherlands Science Institute

During his meeting on St. Maarten with Mr. Henk Roborgh, former Director General of the Ministry of Education Science and Culture (OCW), Commissioner Carlyle Tearr of St. Eustatius has made and confirmed additional covenant agreements regarding the Caribbean Netherlands Science Institute (CNSI) on St. Eustatius.

Additional agreements were necessary because since the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding on April 20th 2012 for the establishment of this knowledge center, there are a number of new developments. This way an informal agreement has been reached regarding the name of the Institute (Caribbean Netherlands Science Institute) and about the governance structure; besides the Director, dr. Johan Stapel, a steering committee has meanwhile been set up to guide the further development of the center. Also, the knowledge center has a well-equipped accommodation in the former Talk of the Town Hotel on St. Eustatius.

The CNSI could start functioning immediately because, most of the honored research projects recently funded by the Netherlands Organization for Scientific Research (Nederlandse Organization voor Wetenschappelijke Onderzoek NWO), will be making use of the center. More information about this can be found on the NOW website, in the news article “Caribisch onderzoek krijgt impuls van 5 miljoen euro” of May 13th, 2014.
