On Friday January 24th 2014 the construction board for the renovation and expansion work at the Police Station in The Bottom Saba was unveiled. Island Governor Jonathan Johnson together with acting Chief of Basic Police Care Saba, Mr. Wingrove Baker, the Government Buildings Agency (Rijksgebouwendienst) and the construction team unveiled the board. This moment marked the start of the construction work whereby the already existing building will be renovated and expanded with extra office space at the back of the police grounds. This renovation and expansion is financed by the Ministry of Security and Justice.
The building in The Bottom is the ‘main Police Station" on Saba. The renovation and expansion is being carried out because the existing building is dated and is in a bad state. In addition the station is being expanded to offer workers a good workplace. The planning is that the renovated and new building can be in use mid-year.
The work consists mainly of the renovation of the existing office building and construction of a new office, located next to the existing Police Station. In addition, the grounds will be organized once again. The sewer system will be renewed and a generator will be installed for common use by the adjacent building of the Public Prosecutor’s Office and the Police.
On behalf of the Ministry of Security and Justice, the Government Buildings Agency, functions as the delegated client in realizing this project for the user Dutch Caribbean Police Force (KPCN). The Government Buildings Agency is also tasked with the project management and the coordination and will be assisted by consulting firm Lievense on St. Maarten. The execution will be realized by Saba Roads & Construction.
