Lions Club Donates $3000 to Dow’s Musical Foundation

The St. Maarten Lions Club on Wednesday made a contribution of US$ 3000,- to the Dow’s Musical Foundation to assist the foundation with the great work they are doing providing steel pan lessons to the various schools and kids on the island. The musical foundation headed by the Mighty Dow has truly saved the art form of steel pan on the island and the Lions Club wanted to ensure that kids that are not able to financially pay for these lessons aren’t excluded from learning this great art form.

The club represented by its President Lion Claudio Buncamper, Treasurer Lion Alphons Gumbs, Secretary Lion Davey Woods and Past District Governor Lion Claudius Buncamper visited the present location at the Cottage Round-a-bout and toured the various class rooms being used for the classes. During the visit the youngsters also recited some tunes they are learning to play under the guidance of the maestro himself DOW.

What the club members also noticed was the urgent need for the expansion of the location as at present no less than 250 plus youngsters from various schools partake in the steel pan lessons that are being offered. To advance to higher levels more space is needed so individually more can also be offered. In that aspect businesses should come together and assist to get the location up to par. The Lions themselves will also look into this matter and see how it can assist.

All the kids that are busy with the classes will be given a stage to showcase their talents as the Lions have offered them to play for their annual Christmas Bingo Spectacular at the Festival Village prior to the start of the bingo games. That on itself will be a great treat for all the bingo players and should set a wonderful atmosphere for the evening in question on Saturday, December 7th.
