Minister of Public Housing, Spatial Planning, Environment and Infrastructure (Ministry of VROMI) Hon. Maurice Lake would like to congratulate the initiators of the country’s newly formed Down Street Business/Community Association as well as the new appointed board.
The Down Street organization was formed on Tuesday night and its first elected President is Godfried Richardson. The organization area of focus within their community is from L’Escargot to the old Paper Garden.
The organization has established six committees that will deal with fundraising, marketing, cleanup, decorations, social and transportation.
"Our community continues to get organized because a collective approach and voice is much stronger when having to deal with different stakeholders. Country Sint Maarten is on the move and moving forward as we see more and more people getting involved in their community.
"This approach of communalism is a positive development for the country and I am looking forward to meeting with the newly formed Down Street Business/Community Association board at their earliest convenience to hear about their concerns, views and plans," Minister Hon. Maurice Lake said on Friday.
"In my back to basics approach, I announced that I would like to meet with Community Councils on a monthly basis in order to address matters of concern to the community.
"Thereafter, we move forward on infrastructural matters and addressing these within the shortest time possible as they come up. I do not believe in long dragged out solutions for quality of life issues. Those that can be dealt with in the short-term will be dealt with," Minister Maurice Lake assured.
