The University of the West Indies, Mona, Jamaica SALISES RESEARCH CENTER submitted a call for papers on the subject Rethinking Regionalism: Beyond the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Integration Project, and Romeo Marlin, head of the Civil Registry Department was one of the selected presenters amongst the 148 intellectuals chosen to present at the October 2013 SALISES conference.
Romeo Marlin will present the topic of Rethinking Reshaping and Integrating Breeder Documents in the 21st Century. The conference acknowledges the 40th anniversary of CARICOM.
It views this as a time to reflect not just on CARICOM, but on its place in the broader debates and processes of regionalism occurring globally and within this hemisphere.
The key note speakers are, Professor Norman Girvan, who holds several distinguished titles, including former Director General of the Association of Caribbean States, the CARICOM Secretary General, Ambassador Irwin LaRocque, who will be speaking on his perspectives of CARICOM’s future direction and Dr. Alissa Trotz who will address the topic of the role, perceptions and aspirations of the Caribbean diaspora towards the regional integration project and their place in it.
The overall objective of Romeo-Marlin is to convey the importance of the authenticity of foundational documents (breeder documents) and the need for regulations surrounding these documents in the Caribbean.
