"We are trying within our financial limits to give something as difficult as that sometimes is so that the larger community can see the positive spinoff"
On the heels of the successful AMHE Conference recently held at the Westin Resort, where some two hundred Haitian Physicians working abroad gathered to share thoughts and ideas, the Prime Minister of St. Maarten the Honorable Sarah Wescot-Williams has again reiterated the call for St. Maarten to broaden its infrastructure to provide more opportunities for conference tourism.
"As Prime Minister I can say that we have indeed been making St. Maarten very attractive for hosting conferences. The Country needs to further grasp these opportunities and together with the private sector, we need to push harder for conference and event tourism.
"This Friday, for example, we will see the start of the Video X-Games, which is another event that has a huge attraction to St. Maarten. It is also an activity that has grown tremendously, especially in the area of what especially attracts our youth. So far for this competition we will see more than three hundred participants from 48 countries taking part in the event taking place over this weekend.
"The fact remains that the uniqueness of St. Maarten is a very large selling point and when we host large conferences where sometimes two hundred people are attending it will have a very significant economic spinoff.
"We are trying within our financial limits to give something as Government as difficult as that sometimes is so that the larger community and the larger economy of St. Maarten can see the spinoff from this," commented the Prime Minister," concluded Prime Minister Wescot-Williams.
