President of Parliament Hon. Gracita Arrindell on Tuesday met with the President of the Sint Maarten Youth Parliament (SMYP) Connie Francis.
The discussions centred on a live plenary broadcast of the SMYP and the establishment of a Kingdom Youth Parliament.
"The youth parliament will receive all necessary assistance from Parliament to make their meeting a successful one. I highly commend Connie Francis for the work she has been doing in this field.
"It’s not an easy task she has before her, and I’m convinced the event and the participants will be well prepared to take part in this important democratic learning and formation process," President of Parliament Hon. Gracita Arrindell said on Wednesday.
The first plenary meeting of the Youth Parliament to be held in the General Assembly Chamber of Parliament will be on August 12. This day is also celebrated globally as International Youth Day.
The agenda for that meeting based on a selection by the youth parliament is: a curriculum that prepares us for life incorporating technological advancement in education.
The meeting which will be held on the first day of school will be televised nationally.
Other issues discussed was the evaluation of the mentorship program, preparation of the 200 year celebration of the Kingdom and in connection thereof the establishment of a Kingdom Youth Parliament.
Follow-up meetings between the two will be held in the coming weeks.
