Last week Reggie Plaisir gave a presentation to the Rotary Club of Sint Maarten group in Philipburg. Mr. Plaisir was invited by Marc Groeneveld to discuss a niche Tourism Product that could diversify the off-season market months on St Maarten.
The Sports Tourism Product would enhance visitor flow to the island when hotels, car rentals and stores need such revenue generation. At the presentation Mr. Plaisir gave details of potential concessions for all interested stakeholders who would like to participate in this new industry for Sint Maarten. During the next few weeks an Executive Committee will be formed to launch the new St Maarten Sports Tourism Commission "SSTC". The SSTC would have an executive board, an advisory board and management team for daily operations. The SSTC hopes to sign a Service Level Agreement with the new St Maarten Tourism Authority early next year. Mr. Plaisir is scheduled to attend Teams Conference in Michigan next month to promote country Sint Maarten as a new Sports Tourism Destination. When asked whether Sint Maarten has the facilities for such teams to play games on Sint Maarten, Reggie answered that this is the case, but that we have to upgrade the existing facilites immediately to ensure safety for all athletes participating in the sports facilities on Sint Maarten. The commission is scheduled to be launched by the end of October 2012.
