St John’s, Antigua — The historic inaugural West Indies Cricket Board Under 17 Tournament is scheduled to bowl off in Tobago this Sunday, July 1 with three games.
The 6 team tournament will be played from July 1 to 7 and will comprise five rounds and fifteen 50 over matches.
The participating teams are the traditional regional teams: Barbados, Guyana, Jamaica, Leeward Islands, Trinidad & Tobago and Windward Islands.
The tournament will be managed by All Sport, a Trinidad based sport management company with several years experience managing cricket events in the West Indies.
"We are delighted to have finally begun our regional Under 17 programme. This tournament is another pillar of our development structure as it offers the young players a bridge between Under 15 and Under 19," President of the WICB Dr. Julian Hunte said.
"We continue, with increasing intensity, the WICB development programme as we ensure that every phase in a cricketer’s life he has meaningful competition which will cause greater levels of preparation, training and development," Dr. Hunte added.
"This Under 17 Tournament now completes a full package of youth development tournaments which we believe will result in better quality cricketers and better quality cricket at all levels," President Hunte said.
