Minister Lake observes demolishing of old Cole Bay Police Post;

Location to become recreational area for Cole Bay youth

Over the weekend Minister of Public Housing, Environment, Spatial Planning and Infrastructure (Ministry VROMI) Hon. Maurice Lake was seen in Cole Bay next to the Leopold Bell Primary School observing along with former Cole Bay Community Council President Freddy Maccow, the demolishing of the old Police Post.

Minister Lake stated that he has been working closely with a number of stakeholders from the Cole Bay community including Freddy Maccow, Members of Parliament (MP) Hon. Louie Laveist, MP Hon. Jules James and Prime Minister Hon. Sarah Wescot-Williams, regarding the creation of a recreational area for Cole Bay youth.

The building was infested with vermin and needed to be taken down. On Tuesday the Minister is expecting to receive a plan from Freddy Maccow on behalf of the Cole Bay community.

"This across party lines broad support is what will move country Sint Maarten forward. I do hope this week we will get the same support from all faction in the House of Parliament regarding the national draft 2014 budget.

"We have come together in the best interests of the community, and this demonstrates that it can be done. This same approach is needed in building the country.

"I am a back to basics minister. My approach is rather simple. It’s all about putting people first, and if the people do not have the basics to improve the quality of life, then we are not going anywhere as a nation.

"I will be working closely with other stakeholders and community council organizations in the various districts to create green recreational areas where families can come together on weekends and during holidays, and during special events to enjoy the company of each other and bond and make the family circle stronger," Minister Hon. Maurice Lake said on Sunday.
