President Arrindell informs Progress Committee about latest efforts to professionalize the House of

The Progress Committee under the chairmanship of Ronald Bandell paid a courtesy visit to the President of Parliament last Thursday.

President of Parliament Hon. Gracita Arrindell provided information to the committee related to how things have progressed since the attainment of country status on 10-10-10; the current state of affairs of parliament’s workload including efforts to further professionalize the legislative institution.

 

The Progress Committee was established by Royal Decree to ensure that the agreements between the Netherlands, the Netherlands Antilles and the Island Territories of Curacao and Sint Maarten in regards to attainment of country status that the national tasks these new countries would receive are executed accordingly.

The members of the Progress Committee Sint Maarten carry out their duties completely independent without charge or consultation. These duties include the monitoring of the execution of the Plans of Approach in the Ministries of General Affairs, Justice and VROMI.

The Progress Committee Sint Maarten sends its reports on the progress of the Plans of Approach for handling in the Ministerial Consultation, of which the Prime Minister of Sint Maarten and the Minister of Kingdom Affairs are members.

Members of the Progress Committee are: Ronald Bandell, Chairman; Richard Gibson Sr., member for Sint Maarten; Nico Schoof, member for the Netherlands; Gert-Jan Stortelers, secretary; and Terrance Rey, deputy secretary.

The Progress Committee has its headquarters in Sint Maarten and the Secretariat is managed by Terrance Rey.
