The SXM Track & Field Association successfully hosted its first Track Meet for this year 2012. This event displayed athletes in the age brackets of 10 to 19 years. The purpose of this event is to identify and assesses the level of athletes. Selected Athletes will be advised to follow an intense training program which will prepare them for upcoming events, such as the CARIFTA GAMES, SXM SPORTS FESTIVAL and KINGDOM GAMES.
This first test was held at the Raoul Illidge Sports Complex, on Sunday March 11th 2012. There we saw a good attendance of the age group 10 to 13, but a poor turnout of the specific group of 13 to 19 years of age.
One of the reasons for this poor turnout of this specific group was mainly caused bye a Carnival activity hosted the evening prior to the event.
But all in all it was a successful event where we saw participation of 30 athletes in 4 different categories boys as well as Girls.
In the under 10 category we saw good performances of Brianna Dumont, Ejannee, Ejomar, and Noah. These athletes took part in 80 meters 150 meters and the 400 meters.
In the 13 under category Girls, top honors went to Tia Gomez who ran her 100 meters in a Spectacular time of 13.8 seconds & her 200 meters in 31:6 seconds. Other outstanding performances by the girls went to Zoe van Dijk, she ran her 400 meters in a best time of 1 Minute and 21 seconds, followed by Adreanna Beseser, and Zoe Zadelhoff. These athletes took part in the 100 meters, 200 meters, 400 meters, long jump.
By the Boys 13 & under outstanding efforts went to Leshawn Brown, he ran the 100 Meters in 13:3 Seconds, 200 meters in 27:8 seconds, 400 meters in 1 minute and 3 seconds, Long Jump 4 meters and 20 centimeters, Javelin 24 Meters. Followed by Herbie Marlin 100 meters 13:3, Longjump 4:55 meters, Nigel Thomas and Jonathan Zafier.
Boys & Girls Category 15 & Under: Special Honors went to Alphonso Williams he ran the 50 Meters 9:3 Seconds, shot putted 9 meters & 22 Centimeters and throw the javelin. In the same group Kevon Brown putted 7 meters & 43 centimeters. Pinky Zafier putted 9 meters and 60 meters and threw the javelin 8 meters.
In the age group 19 & under, top honors goes to:
Stephano Garden, 100 meters 12:03 – 200 meters 26. 2 seconds 400 meters 1:00 Mininute – Longjump 5.26 Meters, 400 meters in a time of 1Min and 2 seconds.
Milton Julius: 100 meters 13.6 seconds 200 meters 28.6 seconds, 400 meters 1: 06 Minutes.
Johanna Bakhuis: 100 meters 16.23 200 meters in 35.03 seconds.
These are the results of the first Track Meet for this year. The Track and field Association will be hosting every Sunday in the Month of March a meet to better prepare the athletes and get them accustom to the rules and regulation when competing.
A special Invitation goes out to all schools who did not received the invitation on time, to send their athletes for MARCH 18th & 26th starting TIME: 1:pm sharp.
