Basseterre, St Kitts – The West Indies arrived in St Kitts on Tuesday evening and hit the field Wednesday morning for a full training session as they prepare for the Second Digicel Test against Pakistan.
The Windies looked a very confident unit as they went through their paces at Warner Park. The home boys are buoyed by the hard-fought 40-run win in the First Digicel Test at the Guyana National Stadium.
Vice Captain Brendan Nash joined his team-mates in the nets and after the three-hour session, the left-hander said he was eagerly looking forward to the match, which bowls off on Friday.
First ball is 10 am (9 am Jamaica Time).
Last year Nash made his highest Test match score (114) at Warner Park when the Windies played to a draw against South Africa. The 33-year-old has great memories of the ground and will aim for a repeat performance as the West Indies look to win the two-match rubber.
"Last year when we played here we got a really good batting surface and I managed to get a good century, which was my second century for the West Indies. We were outplayed by the South Africans in the first match in Trinidad, but we rebounded to get what you could say was a fighting draw here in St Kitts. I felt I batted really well, adding some valuable runs with Shiv (Chanderpaul), who also got a good century. Shiv and I put on a very good partnership. There were quite a few runs scored in that match and it was good the way we responded."
Nash added: "Coming back here again this year I will be looking for another big score for the team. I didn’t get many in Guyana so I know I will be looking to make a greater contribution in this match. We did some really good things in Guyana and we will be looking to do well again here. The bowlers were exceptional. Sammy led from the front and the others followed. Ravi got some great wickets for us and Bishoo was also very good in his first match."
"I rate the performance of the team very high. From a team point of view it as very pleasing. It was a great effort. The lower order runs were the key and Shiv did a great job with the lower order to get us to the position we eventually got. We will go into this match with some confidence following what we did in Guyana. We all have the support of each other and we will be looking for another positive result."
