Customs / CN intercepts counterfeit disinfectant spray

Last week, a shipment of counterfeit cans with disinfectant spray was seized by customs on Sint Maarten.

After investigation it turned out that parts of this shipment had already been exported to Saba and St. Eustatius. Subsequently, an investigation was conducted on St. Eustatius by the Customs / CN and direct checks were carried out at supermarkets where comparable products are sold. The counterfeit spray cans were found in one of these supermarkets and were taken for further investigation.

Since it appeared on the spot that some cans had already been sold, the Public Entity of St. Eustatius (OLE) was immediately informed. Following this, the OLE called on the population to return these aerosols and not use them.

Due to the Lock-down, the urgency on Saba was slightly lower and the Public Entity Saba (OLS) itself contacted the supermarkets.

The cans turned out to contain butane gas.
