SXM DOET team hopes for a strong participation in 2018

On March 9 & 10, 2018 SXM DOET will be back for its fourth year in a row. The SXM DOET team; Fleur Hermanides, Melanie Choisy and Laura Bijnsdorp are hoping the community comes out in full force for the largest volunteer event in the Kingdom.

“There is no denying that as a nation we have endured a lot this year. With this in mind, we hope that everyone will utilize this great opportunity to make a change in our community,” Melanie Choisy states.

The goal of SXM DOET is to ensure that locally existing organizations successfully execute a project, one they have not yet been able to, which benefits themselves, and in turn, the community. Last year over 1300 volunteers completed over 70 projects in two days. Following the devastation caused by Hurricane Irma on Sept. 6, 2017, the team expects that that now more than ever organizations will need support.

In the last years, individuals but also businesses, schools, social organizations, sporting and church groups, friends and families, all joined in to help build community gardens, school benches, animal feeding stations, paint fences, buildings, and murals; entertain persons with special needs, collect and provide food and clothing items for the less fortunate; plant and trim trees, execute clean ups, refurbish playgrounds and sporting facilities, help with health fair activities, spa days, day trips out for entertainment or sports, and the list goes on.

The team hopes that starting January 2018, local foundations, schools, clubs, and community centers will register their project on www.sxmdoet.com. Once registered the organization(s) can also apply for funding to help realize their project. As projects start to appear on www.sxmdoet.com, the community can start signing up to volunteer.

The SXM DOET team would like to: “Wish everyone Happy Holidays and kindly consider signing up for SXM DOET 2018 slated for March 9th and 10th!”
