The Caribbean Ombudsman association (CAROA) joins the Cooperative Republic of Guyana in mourning the passing of its Ombudsman, Justice Winston Moore after a brief illness.
In our gazette of January 2014 CAROA had welcomed the appointment of Justice Moore to fill the office of Ombudsman after a vacancy of many years. This appointment was all the more significant, because in 1966 Guyana became the first country in the Caribbean and the first in the Commonwealth of Nations to establish this great institution in its constitution. Ombudsman Moore had already begun to have a positive impact in resurrecting the office.
Through its president, Dr. Nilda Arduin, Ombudsman of Sint Maarten, CAROA has sent its sincere condolences to justice’ Moore’s colleagues and the President of the Cooperative Republic of Guyana, and avails itself of this opportunity to express much sympathy to his family, friends and the entire community of Guyana, including those residing on Sint Maarten.
