Prime Minister Marcel Gumbs during his working visit in the Netherlands met with Sint Maarteners which included students and young professionals working and residing in the country.
The reception was organised by the Cabinet of the Minister Plenipotentiary on the occasion of the Prime Minister’s first official working visit to the Netherlands. The reception took place at the Babylon Hotel.
Many students and young professionals were in attendance and showed much interest for the message the Prime Minister brought to them.
This message entailed amongst other issues, the need for the young professionals to return to the island to assist in the building of the young country.
“In the Prime Minister’s message to them, he further indicated that the necessary changes were in the make to provide the needed changes to facilitate their return, and in particular in the area of job security under beneficial circumstances.
“Other areas touched on briefly were the relations within the Kingdom and a brief personal history of his appointment to the post of Prime Minister back in December 2014.
“After his introduction and message to the gathering, the Prime Minister made use of the opportunity to mingle and exchange views with those present on issues pertaining to the country in general, and to issues brought up by those in attendance.
“The gathering was deemed inspiring by many of the students and young professionals present, as for many, this was the first up and close contact they had ever experienced with the current Prime Minister.
“They also expressed the wish to have this type of informative exchange on a more frequent basis with not only visiting dignitaries but also with the Cabinet of Sint Maarten in The Hague, something that most certainly will be executed in the coming months and going into 2016.
“The visit ended with the Prime Minister thanking all present for this pleasant surprise while wishing those present continued success in their individual endeavours,” Sint Maarten’s Minister Plenipotentiary Josianne Fleming-Artsen said on Tuesday.
