TelEm Group joined Minister of Eduction, Culture, Youth & Sports, Rita Bourne Gumbs in kicking off the 23rd Interscholastic Soccer Tournament at the Johan Cruyff Court in Belvedere, Saturday.
The Minister showed deft skill by kicking the first ball before a schedule of games got under way.
She thanked parents and those gathered, including former Prime Minister, Mrs. Sarah Wescott-Williams for continuing to support youth soccer on the island and sponsors such as TelEm Group for their corporate citizenship.
Speaking on behalf of TelEm Group during the opening ceremonies on Saturday, Marketing & Sales Officer, Marelva Felix-Jones told visitors TelCell and TelEm Group are once again happy to be the main sponsor of the Interscholastic Soccer Tournament and the promotion of positive sports programs in the community generally.
“We think the organizers are doing a great job and are encouraging healthy competition amongst our various schools,” said Marelva, who is also encouraging TelEm Group staff to join the spectators each Saturday morning for a fun time.
Organizer of the event, the St. Maarten Soccer Educational Foundation (SMSEF), says the competition this year will feature 44 teams representing 10 separate elementary schools and five teams from combined schools.
