Government is tasked with ensuring that certain basic standards are set and adhered to in a country. With the help of the International Labour Organization and other international organizations, the Ministry of Public Health Social Development & Labor is increasing the level of protection for the population by ensuring all legislation and policies meet the minimum international standards.
As workers we spend the majority of our days at the workplace. As a result most accidents potentially occur there, for this reason the workplace needs to be a safe workplace.
Government as the largest employer needs to lead by example and adhere to national legislation before we can expect the private sector employers to follow suit. It is for this reason and in keeping with the theme of putting people first that we as a ministry spearheaded by the Department of Labour have purchased these first aid kits to be distributed to the various departments throughout government.
This is a first step in ensuring that all workers are safe and we look forward to the remainder of the Sint Maarten population and private sector following suit.
