Amateur digital photographer, Rogier Brans, of local engineering firm Lievense, has been officially recognized as the winner of TelEm Group’s Phone Book 2014 Photo contest which took place island-wide late last year.
During a short ceremony at TelEm Group’s main building on Pond Island, Mr. Brans was congratulated for his stunning effort and presented with a brand new Samsung Galaxy Smartphone – complete with built-in camera so that he can continue with his favourite hobby.
The winning shot was taken with a Canon D60 digital camera right in Rogier’s back garden. And the winning photographer happily admits to spending many hours capturing just the right light and waiting for the correct moment to digitally record visual images of St. Maarten’s flora and fauna.
Second prize in the photo contest went to Binkie van Es, for his picture of a bird skipping stones on the Great Salt Pond while 3rd prize was awarded to Peter Johnson for a shot of a crab at Gun Hole in Saba.
TelEm Group, Manager, Marketing & Sales, Mr. Emile van der Weerd, said judges were unanimous in their choice of Rogier’s humming bird photograph because of its composition, technical quality and theme.
He said Rogier also got a special mention for another photo that the judges liked showing an other-worldly ant colony making their home on a garden pipe.
"We want to thank Rogier and all the members of the public who sent in their digital images for the photo contest. Many of them can be seen in our new Phone Book 2014 which is currently being distributed to customers," said Mr. Van der Weerd.
