Mein Schiff makes unscheduled port call on Monday afternoon;

Port officials and staff organize bbq for passengers and crew

On Monday afternoon at 4.30pm the cruise ship Mein Schiff made an unscheduled port of call.

The vessel left the island-nation of Antigua & Barbuda after encountering berthing challenges at the aforementioned island. There wasn’t sufficient berth depth within the port area.

One member of port management stated that maintenance dredging in any port is necessary in order to maintain water depths for the safe docking of cruise and cargo vessels, adding that sea swells and currents move sand around on the sea floor all the time and port authorities have to monitor water depths all the time.

Mein Schiff will depart destination St. Maarten on Tuesday evening. Port management and staff organized a special BBQ for cruise passengers and crew while Taxi Drivers catered to the guests by offering them transportation services.

On Monday there was no scheduled cruise ship visits and the unscheduled call of the Mein Schiff was most welcome for the port and other cruise industry stakeholders such as taxi drivers and merchants.

Mein Schiff belongs to TUI Cruises. TUI Cruises was founded in April 2008. The cruise brand offers a contemporary holiday on the sea and is aimed at the German market. The company is a joint venture of TUI AG in Hanover, Germany and Royal Caribbean Cruises.

The Mein Schiff vessel can carry approximately 1900 passengers and has a crew complement of 780.
