Mullet Bay again left in a mess;Pride calls on all to keep beaches clean

During a site visit by the Sint Maarten Pride Foundation this past weekend the Foundation’s volunteers found that parts of Mullet Bay Beach had been left covered in garbage after a party which was apparently held in the afternoon of Saturday January 11th 2014. The Foundation subsequently took up contact with Community Police Officer Josepha and executives of the waste management company Leonard Enterprises N.V., who assured the Foundation that the garbage would be immediately removed on Monday morning.

Sint Maarten Pride Foundation is once again calling on residents, visitors, business and organizations to dispose of their garbage in a responsible manner during and after all beach visits.

Last year some eighteen garbage bins were placed on Mullet Bay Beach and four on Kim Sha Beach in partnership with the St. Maarten Tourist Bureau, Environmental Protection In the Caribbean (EPIC), St. Maarten Pride Foundation, St Maarten Timeshare Association and The Ministry of Public Housing, Spatial Development, Environment and Infrastructure.

Pride calls on the public at large to please make proper use of the garbage bins. Small waste items from beach parties, barbecues etc. should be disposed of in the nearest garbage bin which is not yet full or put in the large garbage containers such as the one placed on the Mullet Bay Beach parking-lot.

Odd-sized, large garbage items and full garbage bags should not be placed, in, on, next to or around the small garbage bins nor anywhere else on the beach. These items should be disposed of in the aforementioned large garbage containers on the parking lot or taken back home if no containers are available in the immediate area.
