Introduces communications policy
The Department of Labour which falls under the Ministry of Public Health, Social Development and Labour, will be stepping up its communications with stakeholders in the coming weeks and months as part of an effort to further improve its contact with the community.
Minister of Labour Hon. Cornelius de Weever fully supports transparency and open government and is an advocate for the community to be provided with as much information about labour matters in order for employers and employees to be able to know their rights and make informed decisions.
"Everybody has a right to information, to know what their obligations are, and to be aware of Labour Department policies and the types of services that the aforementioned can render to employers and employees.
"The Department of Labour plays a very important role in a society, and it is the objective of the staff to bring the department closer to the community," Minister of Labour Hon. Cornelius de Weever said on Wednesday.
Earlier in the week the Minister was informed about the new communications policy and about the communication methods that will be used to reach various stakeholders.
One of the communication products is a digital newsletter in collaboration with the Department of Communication. The e-newsletter will be distributed to key stakeholders such as employer and employee organizations, advisory councils, and judiciary just to mention a few.
Another communication product is a quarterly newsletter for civil society that would benefit employers and employees containing a wealth of information regarding obligations, and responsibilities to services available by the Department of Labour, and information about the laws that govern labour matters.
In addition, a series of brochures will be developed which will feature information about contracts, procedures for firing an employee, vacation days, overtime, collective labour agreements and much more. These brochures will also be available online on the government website for download and on display at the Department of Labour Affairs on the Pondfill.
